Camp Duffel

It’s not a place, it’s a strategy.

What We're All About

Somewhere in a low-income neighborhood on the far side of a busy city is a pastor who loves his community and his congregation. But he’s only just one man, and he knows he’s not enough to accomplish all the tasks needed to engage the youth in his community this summer. He dreams of having the necessary staff to run a summer camp and reach out to the neighborhood – the whole city – and share the gospel to more people. But where would he even start? There’s a worship leader whose church meets above a strip mall every Sunday. Her pastor has told her they don’t have the budget to host a camp for the children of the community, but her heart still longs to offer these kids a safe and instructional environment during their school break. If only she had some help… Brimming with energy and talent, the youth ministers at a blossoming church in the heart of an inner-city are excited to host their first camp event for their church and their community. But despite their good intentions and up-beat attitudes, they feel a little lost when they start thinking about program, activities, cabin groups and structure. They know they could bless their community and reach hearts, but what are they supposed to do with all the kids clamoring to attend? Camp Duffel reaches out to churches that wouldn’t otherwise be able to host a camp event and minister to their communities through small groups.

Camp Duffel is an itinerant strategy that guides local talent to provide camp experiences for kids in under-resourced areas. We strive to assist in the development of Christian camps in places where kids aren’t getting the opportunity to go to camp.

Made up of traveling teams who assist local talent with a three day camp-like event, Camp Duffel takes camp to others and trains the young local leaders so they can continue on once the Camp Duffel team has left.

Nathan Caldwell

Camp Duffel Leader

I grew up on the mission field in Mexico. Even from a young age I have wanted to be a missionary in Mexico, as the Latin American culture hold a deep place in my heart. Five years ago, I started implementing assistance to new and/or needy camp locations through Camp Duffel. Camp Duffel is an itinerate strategy that guides local talent to provide camp experiences for kids in under-resourced areas. Camp Duffel’s primary ministry takes place through the local church. As such, I deemed it necessary to earn my Masters of Divinity, allowing me to better connect with the pastor. Upon graduation at Denver Seminary, with seven years of youth pastor experience under my belt, I plan to minister full time using Camps International’s strategic outreach tool, Camp Duffel.

    How Can I Get Involved?

There are so many ways to get involved in our outreach program, Camp Duffel. If you or your church are looking for ways to invest in the growth of a camp in Latin America, host a drive to fund the necessary items to fill a duffel bag and bless a new camp. Duffel bag items include sports equipment, activities, puzzles, and teaching material. Our goal is to gather enough funds to be able to leave a complimentary duffel bag full of camp necessities with each camp we travel to help. By helping us fill these bags with equipment, you are enabling Camp Duffel teams to reach more camps, train more leaders, and ultimately allow more children to hear the Gospel in a safe, enriching environment.

Sponsoring a sister church in another country is a great way to get your home church involved in missions and out reach. Fill out the form to the left to receive your Camp Duffel Drive packet and learn how you can impact a community for Christ today!

This summer you can be a part of something unforgettable: a successful team. The person God made you to be, your experience, your academic learning, will be called upon to accomplish what you alone cannot do. The words reliance, trust and faith take on a deeper meaning when there is so much at stake. You and your teammates are charged with creating something new. Starting a camp. Camp Duffel is an itinerant strategy that guides local talent to provide camp experiences for kids in under-resourced areas. We seek to develop Christian camps in places where kids aren’t getting the opportunity to go to camp. This summer we will be in three countries and have an impact on hundreds of youth. Made up of traveling (often multi-national) teams who assist local talent with a three day camp-like event, Camp Duffel takes camp to others. Part of leadership is that it is a process of influencing others. To participate in the Great Commission Camp Duffel teams provide purpose, direction and motivation. Our goal is that after a Camp Duffel team moves on, the kids and counselors from that area will continue in a discipling relationship under the direction of leadership in a local church.
